Ramil Bonus of Olongapo City and Imus’ Glenn Geluz took the Open and Classified Masters titles of first monthly championships of the 3rd SM Bowling Millionaires Cup held recently at the SM Bowling and Leisure Center North EDSA.

Bonus defeated Bien Lozada in the Open Masters final match, 217-191 to capture his first title in the seven-month tournament, organized by SM Lifestyle Entertainment, Inc. and sanctioned by the Philippine Bowling Congress. Lozada, who topped the 8-game qualifying, earned the right to face Bonus in the finals by disposing of Letty Pineda, 231-159 in the first Semifinal match.  While Bonus defeated teammate Alvin Cuevas 244-218 to earn his spot in the finals.

In the Classified Masters, Geluz, who finished 1st Runner-Up in last year’s National Finals, easily beat top seed Rene Senope of Mandaluyong, 245-197 in the final match to take home the crown.  Senope outclassed Maricar Arce (212-167) in the Semifinals, while Geluz narrowly beat Bien Lozada, 205-198 in the other semifinal match.

Bonus and Geluz now lead their respective divisions in Ranking Points, in the race to secure berths in the National and Grand Finals of the tournament in October.  The top sixty bowlers based on Ranking Points will qualify for the National Grand Finals, with the top 24 taking a bye directly to Round 2.   The second monthly championships takes place on May 28 & 29 at SM Bowling and Leisure Center Megamall.   The top eight bowlers from MOA, Megamall, Southmall, Fairview, North EDSA and Clark will qualifying for the said finals.

Meanwhile, bowlers from Viz-Min (Area South) will battle it out for honors during the first Monthly Championships for Visayas-Mindanao, also on May 28 & 29 at SM Bowling and Leisure Center Cebu.  Qualifiers from Seaside, Cebu and Lanang will converge in SM City Cebu for the first regional finals that will determine qualifiers to the National Grand Finals.  More than PHP 6.0 M in prizes are at stake in the tournament, touted as the biggest bowling tournament to be held in the country.
